That a love of reading and writing has coincided with an extensive career as a book cover designer seems almost a natural process. For a long time, I worked as art director for the Península and Proa collections, until Edicions 62 was integrated into the Planeta group and the dynamics of collaboration between editors and external designers changed. I have, however, read very few of the books that I have “dressed” graphically, apart from some inevitable classics: I have dealt with reading reports and the editors’ guidelines. Better so. The graphic designer is asked to communicate what the publisher wants to explain about the book; not his own experience as a reader, personal, non-transferable and not always representative.
