Working as an illustrator under the direction of other designers is very stimulating. At Penguin, Pòrtic and Paidós, I have had the opportunity to create the image for covers that responded to a very codified collection design. When I have been in charge of the graphics, it has also been very useful to take advantage of my own skills as an illustrator and make typography and image enter into a more intimate dialogue, as in the cover of El idiota (Penguin) or Volver a ser niño (Paidós). I have never been tempted to develop an easily recognisable style, which has given me a certain freedom and, above all, the possibility of avoiding the tedium that comes from pretending to be oneself.
